Purpose: to complete the shots in front of the white screen that resemble the character getting ready.
Duration: 2 hours

This shoot was considerably successful, we managed to complete all of the shots that we needed in front of the white screen in a short amount of time. We filmed the same shots multiple times so that we had a variety of shots to choose from when editing.

Test shot 2:

Before we tested out this shoot, we needed to make the props. Therefore, we had to melt the lipsticks, this had health risks because the lipsticks were so small. Therefore, the plastic would also start to melt and it was very easy to burn yourself. Another difficulty that we came across was that it was hard to get the height of the lipsticks even and the way in which they melted created quite a messy finishing product.

This shoot didn't go according to how we had planned. When watching it back it was clear that the camera hadn't entirely been focussed. As well as this, I feel as though the angle and positioning didn't work as it appears quite unnatural in terms of the way it fits in the frame. I also think the pace is too slow which makes it feel quite dull. Therefore, it will need to be re-shot in order to be included in our Title Sequence.

Test shoot:

Before we started to shoot we wanted to experiment in terms of the lighting and angles that we should use.  This resulted in us doing a test shoot while we created some props that would be featured in our sequence. In which we melted red lipstick but made it appear as if it was blood. This is a way to represent the femininity of the character while connoting quite sinister aspects. This is because red is quite a controversial colour as it can represent Sexuality, love and lust but also connote danger, death and fear.

We only used one light box due to the location in which we were filming and the resources we had at the time and since we couldn't get the cable for the light box to reach far enough,  the lighting source was on the right side. Therefore, in the shoot the lighting was uneven. However, this was helpful in telling us that when we next shoot in front of the white screen we would need to use two light box's on either side of the white screen so that the lighting is balanced.

Different Typography Styles:

Different Typography styles:

Nite Club:
Hermione:

Dolphian:

Ornamental Versals:
20db:

These are the different typography styles that I think would work best for the title of our film, the first four are quite similar in the style. However, I think the first one Nite Club is the most sophisticated.

Dress Polls

We held polls on the dresses to determine who would best suit the costume and the character. We asked 10 people and these are the results that we recieved.

As Myself and Maddie Brownlow tied in the Dress polls. We had to decide as a group who would play the role. It became clear that it would be more convenient to use me to play the character because i have brown hair which fits the description that we had created of our character. As well as this, Maddie has the role of Cinematography and it would be impossible for her to film and be in the shots. Where as my role is Mise-en-scene, so I can still fulfil my role while being in the scenes, it may in fact work in my favour since I can position myself in the way in which I desire much easier then it is to direct someone else to do so.

outfit choices

The choice of outfits that we have is restricted to the items of clothing that is owned within the group. This is because we have a limited amount of money to spend on the Title sequence. Despite this we all managed to produce a dress which we felt would suit the character. We then narrowed this down to Two dresses. Dress one will be worn in the white screen shots and Dress Two will be worn in the shots where the character is seducing the male character.

                                     Dress one         Dress two
We took photographs of each of us in the dress to decide who should play the character. We decided that it should be someone within the group because we would all need to be present when shooting, so it made sense for it to be one of us because we would be more reliable.

Animatic:

The Animatic:

The animatic shows the order of the shots, the timings were not represented accurately within this because we feel as though it is hard to estimate how long the shots will need to be. Especially since we haven't attempted filming yet, we cannot be precise in judging the pace of movements and interactions. However, the pace of the shots towards the end should be quicker because this is where the title sequence becomes intense. As well as this, there is not a soundtrack, since we haven't explored the sound that would work well with the visuals and that would convey the genre. The only implications that can be made to do with sound at this stage is that it needs to be seductive but also have a dark suspicious undertone.

Storyboards:

Our storyboards are a rough idea of the structure of our narrative within the Title Sequence. We all agreed that we want both the Protagonists and the victim's identity concealed to create tension and narrative enigma. Therefore, most of the sequence will be either mid-shots or close-ups. However, we are well aware that the filming may not go according to plan and there might be aspects of the sequence that will need to be changed in order for it to flow well. We decided that we wanted the title sequence to follow the order of the events that happen within the film, similar to the structure of Catch me if you can.

The drawings are very rough and simplistic, they only include the part of the shot that will be the main focus since we cannot really draw the location and the surroundings within the shots because we haven't found locations that we will film in yet. The only certainty is that we will be shooting in front of the white screen.

Within the title sequence we would like
to incorporate some of the typography physically within the frame by having the stars interact with it. The ways in which we want to do this, is by having the female protagonist write on a mirror using lipstick, we would also like to have font emerging from a drink/ floating in a drink and have the actors name shown when he opens his wallet.

Kyle Cooper Research:

Saul Bass Questionnaire & Responses:

Saul Bass Questionnaire and responses:

we asked four different people varying in age, whether or not they have heard of Saul Bass and if they could tell the genre of the film based on the title sequence. The reason for this was to decide whether or not having a title sequence of this style would be effective. We also got feedback of what people thought this title sequence was lacking. Therefore, helping us to decided what other qualities and aspects we could include as well.
